6 draw baleen covered telescope – Robinson Brothers. London & Shrewsbury.

Signed on the first draw as per title; the telescope holds a 1.25″ objective lens and measures 5″ closed and 23.5″ fully open. Brass construction with baleen covered barrel. A very long Dollond single draw telescope from around 1800

An impressive naval style single draw telescope, labelled “Dollond, London” near the eyepiece. Diameter at the objective is 63mm, closed the length is 955mm, and at focus the scope is 1105mm long. Clear view, good magnification. The first draw contains the four eyepiece lenses, one at either end and then there are two splits in the tube, which hold the internal lenses. A very good, six inch, mahogany pocket compass by Dollond of London c.1800. Silvered dial divided by cardinal points and outer ring of 360 degrees, divided into one degree increments. Dial is near perfect, original needle (points to magnetic North) and glass. Pin in case to lock compass needle. C1830 Staffordshire Child’s Sign-Language Mug

A c1830 English  child’s mug with a blue and white transfer print showing hands demonstrating the letters of the alphabet. In a less enlightened age such mugs were referred to as “deaf and dumb mugs”. No evident cracks or hairlines. The transfer print is not perfect but they seldom are. Height: 2.5″ or 6.5cm.
