A Victorian naval telescope with a long tapered wooden barrel – the visible wood is over 32 inches long, the telescope is 44 inches long with the single brass draw fully extended. Despite the length it is easy to hand hold, the barrel being relatively light. Cased universal compass sundial by Charles Nephew & Co., Calcutta

Of unusual form, the actual compass / sundial instrument is fixed into the mahogany ebonized case. The three adjustable levelling screws protrude through the bottom of the case allowing the user to level the sundial, as normal, but within its case.
