An automatic dental mallet manufactured by Samuel. S. White & Sons in England. An automatic mallet was used to condense gold foil and other restorative materials into tooth cavities—a technique especially popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. SOLD – 6 draw pocket telescope – Davies, Leeds.

SOLD – A seven draw brass telescope, the barrel covered with multi-colours of baleen. Signed on the first draw, ‘Improved by G. Davis, Leeds’. Measuring 39 cm when fully open and 9.7 cm closed, it has a main lens of 21 mm diameter. Gabriel Davis worked from 1822 – 47 and was the Uncle of the famous instrument maker John Davis. Read More...

Four draw signed telescope.

  A four draw wooden barrelled telescope signed, ‘Chadburn Bros, Sheffield’. They worked from Sheffield from 1837 – 1884 and had a Royal Appointment to Prince Albert.  The main lens is 2″ (50 mm) diameter and gives a fine sharp image when viewing through with a magnification of 25 x. The telescope measures 36″ (91 cm) when fully extended and 10.5″ (27 cm) when closed. It is in very good condition and comes with a later wooden display stand. Circa 1850. Read More...

A set of fourteen 19th century dental instruments fashioned from steel with brass ferrules and ebony handles, all in good solid condition but with some tarnish to the steel and manufactured by Claudius Ash & Sons, the catalogue pages are taken from their catalogue dated 1871. 1860s Trepanning Set by Archibald Young

A fine mid-19th century trepanning set by Archibald Young working in  Edinburgh. The set appear to be complete and original, noting that the scalpel is a replacement. Trephines retains most of their original lacquer; their handles are checkered ebony not ebonized wood.  Conditi0n of instruments is very good; the exterior of the case lid shows some wear and  eye closures are  absent but hooks are present. An antique Dentists Travelling Cabinet by The Dental Manufacturing Co\’, c.1910 complete with contents. The cabinet is teak with brass fittings with a lift up top and 6 drawers. Signed “Swift and Son, 43 University St. London, W.C.” on the anodized bronze foot, this is one of their earlier examples that was produced well into the 20th century from their Tottenham Court Road (1881)  address. Standing 14 inches tall (20 inches fully racked up), the microscope has 90% original lacquer with only slight scratches, verdegris and signs of wear to the stage. Pair of pocket globes signed “CARY London”. –        Terrestrial Globe with cartouche: “Cary’s Pocket globe agreeable to the latest discoveries London Published by J &W Cary April 1791’ with a mention near the Sandwich Islands ‘where Cook was killed 1779”. Double-plate brass sundial signed “Edm Culpeper Fecit”. The upper plate features on its top an hour scale in Roman numerals IV-XII -VIII with attractive foliage and foliate decoration on the plate and gnomon. The lower plate features the signature, the movable arm and a blued steel hand with the letters N[orth] et S[outh] on a brass pivot.
