A 19th century two draw, leather covered marine telescope, signed, ‘J.H. Dallmeyer, London’ and also underneath the ray shade, ‘W.J. Rideout. The Medea’. Complete with end cap and eye slider, the telescope measures 35.5 ” (90 cms) when extended and 25.5 (65 cms) when closed with a main lens of 1.75″ (44 mm). An excellent three draw, mahogany barreled, unsigned refracting telescope with early knurling/machining/roping c.1820. Measuring 1 1/4 inch (3 cm.) in diameter, 16 inches open and 6 inches closed it has it’s protective ocular slide but no end cap. A good example of a nacre (Mother of Pearl) and silver magnifying glass (loupe) with fantastic iridescent sheen, three securing mounts (ornate clam shell design) and hinge point. No damage at all to the lens (5-10 X magnification) with a small bubble in the biconvex lens (see photo).
