1920s Medical Drawings of Ophthalmic Pathologies

We have obtained a collection of original watercolor drawings, done to record a variety of ophthalmic pathologies. They range from a group done at Hamblins in the 1920s( the bulk of the collection)  to a couple of c1930 Curry  Paxton drawings. They depict various ophthalmic pathologies such as congenital cataracts, sarcomas, siderosis, etc. Some of the drawings  were executed for notable British ophthalmic surgeons, including Sir William Lister and W.S. Throughout most of the 20th century, before the refinement of the fundus camera, drawings were used to document retinal pathologies. This was done by both working ophthalmologists and by specialist artists. A “Henri Van Heurck” microscope coming from the Orville Golub collection

An early model of this famous microscope called “Henri Van Heurck”, after its inventor, the famous Belgian diatomist. This microscope was described by the latter “for the study and photography of diatoms and for all delicate researches”. The microscope is signed “W. Watson & Sons 313 High Holborn” and bears the serial number 3750. The microscope can be dated to around 1895, much earlier than the majority of known Van Heurcks built by Watson. A rare wind vane dial in the manner of Whitehurst
