Cow-slip flower model by Louis M. Meusel

A botanical model of the common cow-slip, enlarged 10x and in three parts. Shown are the complete flower with its crown that can be divided in two halves and showing the langstem pistil. C1850 Artificial Eye for the Demonstration of Myopia and Hypermetropia

A mid-19th century artificial eye for demonstrating nearsightedness and farsightedness. Probably German or French. An identical instrument is shown on p. 64 of Pierre Marly’s LES LUNETTES ,Paris, 1980. At the back of the wooden  ( possibly walnut) “eye ball”  is a brass tube, ending in a frosted-glass retina, that can be extended or retracted. A German horizontal brass Sundial with compass, late 17th early 18th century. Brass scale plate on 3 adjustable feet, with hours marked in Roman numerals. Fixed gnomon with plumb made for a latitude of ca. 49 degrees (Nuremberg). Compass in a reduced around brass box construction with the Latin placeholders: Sept, Ori, Merid and Occid.
