Description

A very unusual hand-spectroscope by Jean Georges Hofmann, the German-born Parisian instrument maker, based rue de Buci in Paris from 1850 and specialized in polarizing instrument and prism monocular or prism telescope.

This hand spectroscope has a very unusual design, with a thermometer used to determine whether the rotational power of the liquid varies depending on the temperature (the thermometer is persently broken but could be changed).

We cannot find antique or modern documentation about this very unusual design.

A rare and superb instrument in great condition.

The instrument measures 22,5 lenght and the box 26,5x19x9cm.
