Description
A very good Georgian pocket microscope with a couple of innovations seldomly seen. Although unsigned, the knurling and complexity of the workmanship would indicate the original was from a first class shop (Beilby & Proctor?). Complete.
Standing 22 cm. in it’s compound format, this microscope can be used as a simple field microscope as well. Three stacking lenses, excellent single sided mirror, sliding friction focus on a square pillar, unusual sprung stage from below with slider carriage, rare pivoting live box to forego loss or need to remove it in the field. Stage and hand forceps. Bone slider included. Maroon card cylindrical case is 14 x 6 cm. in diameter and has both hinges and hooks intact. A delight to use as everything can be assembled once without interchanging bits. 90% lacquer with a small dent in the compound body tube (see photo). Stable solid brass round base. Good optics.
This microscope is extremely well engineered for ease of use in the field and packs up into a compact cylindrical pocket case.
