Description

A three draw brass telescope with a mahogany body, signed in flowing script, ‘Dormer, London’. It measures 7.5″ long when closed and 23″ fully open with a main lens of 1.25″.

In excellent working order and damage free (no cracks, chips etc). In carboard case (slightly distressed).

I cannot find any information on Dormer and the name is not listed in Gloria Clifton’s Directory.

The telescope would appear to be early 19th century as the signature runs from left to right (away from the eye-pice) as Ramsdens telescopes did. The main lens is a two piece flint and crown marriage, the green tinge to the flint glass clearly visible; the flint glass was done away with in the 1850’s.
