Description

A brass astronomical / surveyors telescope with an equatorial mount, no makers marks, in original fitted wooden case (no key).

The base has a small threaded hole for mounting (no stand present), a revolving prismatic compass with transit lock and push up prism, and connects to the lower arm via a thumbsrew pivot and an adjustable ‘arrangement’ below. The lower arm has twin tiny bubble levels and is connected to a counter weighted upper arm, on which, the telescope in mounted. Both arms have locking nuts.

The dial on the lower arm has a revolving needle and a 1 – 24 graduated scale and operates when the upper arm and telescope are moved (in a circular, elliptical movement), the upper (counter-weighted) arm has a similar 360 degree dial split into four 90 degree sections and operates only when the actual telescope rotates.

The telescope has a celestial (inverted) view and focus is push / pull focus to the draw tube. The 2″ diameter objective lens is in a brass mount with a deep 2″ hood.

 
It gives a good clear image when viewed through. The main parts are finished in Khaki colour. It’s hard to give an exact date of manufacture but between 1900 – 1920’s.

Size : All approx : The telescope barrel is 11.75″ long x 2.25″ diameter with a 2″ lens. The overall height is approx 17.75″.
