Description
SOLD – A nice little 6 draw portable telescope signed on the first draw, ‘Davis, Derby’, measuring 15″ long when fully drawn and 3.75″ when closed. The main lens has an aperture of 2.3 cms and the barrel is finished in coloured baleen.
The case holds a small clamp on a compass joint which fixes to the 5th draw. Unscrewing the bottom of the stem reveals a steel corkscrew for the user to fix to a fence post, tree branch etc.
There is also a celestial eye-piece and a sun filter. To fit this the user unscrews the first two draw tubes of the telescope and the eye-piece threads onto the third draw. This gives the user a very clear inverted image. The sun filter can be attached the celestial eye-piece. All fitted in a plush lined moroccon case (please note one side of the lid is missing).
John Davies (V11) is recorded for having worked in Derby from 1830 – 1862.
