Description
A large single draw marine telescope, signed near the eye-piece, ‘Dollond, London. Day or Night’.
The length is 3ft ( 36″ ) with the draw tube pulled out and 20.75″ when retracted. It has a 1.75″ objective glass and has a lens cap and eye-piece dust slider. The barrel has been professionally recovered in maroon leather. With typical ‘rope effect’ finish to the collar edges.
The sun shade has a Dutch presentation inscription which is quite difficult to decipher:
‘Aandenlien van Meu run Tollenhosen. Rochussen’? ( Memory / In Gratitude of attack / assault ….? ).
There are no dents and the telescope operates as it should with clear images.
In partial protective leather sleeve case (lid missing).
Commissioned by Dollond to commemorate an impertant Dutch event.
