Description
Very rare model of microscope called “Nouveau microscope d’amphithéâtre” [“New amphitheater microscope”] introduced by Lerebours and Secretan in their 1853 catalog.
This model is not signed, like most of the few known examples, but undoubtedly attributable to Lerebours and Secretan.
This model seems to us to be dated strictly to the years 1853-1855 since it is absolutely similar to the model described in the 1853 catalog: “New amphitheater microscope; 3 achromatic lenses, 1 eyepiece, screw to focus, magnification approximately 250 times”
In addition, this example is complete with its mahogany box and in perfect original condition, unpolished, with the blackened parts intact and its original optics. Please note only some cracks in the wood and some missing wooden elements in the Box.
Very rare model of an original French microscope from the mid-19th century.
The box measures 27×12.5×9.5 cm.
