Description
Refractor polarimeter made of brass with cast iron tripod base by Steindorff & Co Berlin DRP Germany, 1920s. It is an instrument used to determine the concentration of sucrose and glucose in raw materials and sugar-based foods. In the 19th century, these instrument were also widely used by family doctors to measure sugar levels in urineExcellent condition fully functional. Cm 36×18 h 22 – inches 14.17×7 h 8.66.
The mechanic Emil Steindorff established a factory for scientific instruments in 1879 in the Reichenberger Straße in Berlin. In 1915, the owners were Otto and Emil Steindorff. In 1925 the company was called Steindorff & Co. and two years later the company began trading under the name “optical-mechanical Fabrik Steindorff & Co.”
