Description
SOLD – A rare 18th century reflecting telescope (no tripod) measuring 17″ long including the eye-piece, the barrel having a diameter of 2.75″. The eye-piece tube is engraved, ‘MANN & AYSCOUGH, LONDON’.
James Mann and James Ayscough were only in business for 4 years from 1743-47.
The mirrors are good and the telescope gives a very clear image. There is an old surface crack to the underside (last picture).
