Description
An outstanding set of apothecary scales entirely constructed of solid coinage silver. Hard to date but certainly Georgian in construction with push button catch and shaped hinges (entirely hand riveted) with green baise liner and leather outer covering.
This set is extensive with a 12 cm. chiselled beam, ornate gallows and indicator, silver chains to the 4 cm. pans, engine turned storage container for 30 weights (some stylised, all of equal weight), elaborate ladle/cup for liquid measures, a tamper and spoon/spike. All in coinage silver (tested >0.800, NOT plated). This had to have been a special order (gift) as the details are exquisite and the cost would have been high. Made for dry and liquid measures of opiates?, it has seen little use as there is NO damage (save a slight loss to the case-left upper corner knock).
The case itself has the aforementioned appointments in silver (including the clasp, hinges and rivets) and measures 15 x 8 x 4 cm. A set of scales for the true connoisseur of such items !! c.1800
