Description
A library telescope for restoration:
The height is 19.75 inches, barrel length 29.75 inches with a main lens of 2 inches.
The celestial eye-piece gives a good, sharp inverted image. All lenses are damage free and the rack and pinion work fine. Signed on the back collar, ‘Gilbert & Sons, London’.
There is a square mechanical locking plate at the bottom of the telescope column. The user can turn the telescope and column 360 degrees while the three legs stay fixed. The small lever to the top of the ‘box’ locks the telescope and column to a fixed position.
No dents other than to the main lens brass outer cell. Lacking steady bar, lens cap and one of the two fixing screws which secures the telescope to the tripod.
Gilbert & Sons ( William (& William (11) & Thomas) worked from 1806 – 1819 at Leadenhall street and Tower Hill, London.
