Description

Large Smith & Beck cased microscope with inside accessory case full of accessories C1850.  Microscope is a double pillar and has a stage that moves in X-Y direction and operates fine in both directions.  Coarse focusing rack has a few chewed up teeth but allows body tube movement the full minimum and maximum height except for a very small distance on the way up which, if the tube is lightly supported, allows the tube to bypass those two bad teeth and continues lifting the body tube to the top.   Body tube is inscribed with “CW Dixey & Sons New Bond Str, London” (The retailor).   Accessories are stored in an accessory case and include limb mounted bullseye condenser, limb mounted forceps, large live box, 3 different sized lieberkuhns (small, medium, and large) each with a screwcap, 4 objectives, each with “CW Dixey & Sons” marked case and a levered compressor (missing circular brass ringed plate).  There is also a substage mounted variable aperture wheel.  The card boxes containing slide covers may not be original and are probably replacements for boxwood originals.  The cardboard cases are marked “JH Steward, Watchmaker & Jeweler, 457 West Strand, opposite the Grand Hotel” on the lids.  Microscope stands 18.5” (47 cm) tall with coarse focusing all the way down almost touching the stage.  Case dimensions are 19” (48.26 cm) tall, 11” (27.94 cm) wide and 9“(22.86 cm) deep.  Double sided substage mirror is in very good condition.

US Orlando Microscopes

I am not a business, but an individual that inherited a few hundred antique Microscopes from my Dad who had been collecting for over 20 years. I am keeping a small subset of the collection and will sell the rest.
