Description

Large Cased Seibert Stativ 2 Microscope with accessories C. late 1880s.     Accessories include Eye Pieces marked “I, II, III” and 4 Seibert objectives with matching Seibert marked cases labeled “ 1/12 Homog Immersion Seibert”, “No 3 Seibert”, “No 1 Seibert” and “No 5 Seibert”.   Coarse and fine focusing do work.   The stage is marked around the circumference in degrees and rotates freely by hand when the two stage screws are loosened.  The substage diaphragm pivots from beneath the stage and the rack and pinion that moves the diaphragm laterally works well.   The adjustment that changes the diameter of the diaphragm opening also works well.   The microscope is signed on the body tube “Seibert in Wetzlar”.  There is quite a bit of pitting on the brass that is evident when viewing the images that are part of this listing.   The double sided substage mirror is in very good condition.   The locking lever that locks or holds the body tube at a particular incline also functions.  Microscope stands 12” (30.4 cm) tall with coarse focusing at lowest setting.   Case dimensions are 16” (40.6 cm) tall, 9” (22.8 cm) wide and 8.5” (21.6 cm) deep.  The door to the case does not stay closed and wants to drift open about ¾”.  Also, there appears to be an accessory drawer missing from the top part of the inside of the case.  Otherwise, case is in good condition.
