This is my preferred leeches jar ever, one of the only 3 Italian models known (apart some one-of-a-kind jar).

It’s a very rare, massive Italian leeches jar, all hand painted with scenes of the pond: frogs, butterflies and of course happy, swimming leeches. Inside it there’s the mark of the artist, “A”, that decorated it. Amazing handles shaped as leeches…
Height ca. 42 cm, in mint condition (I can only notice a small chip in the inner container) and even if a book dates it to the 1700’s I’d be more confident with a “second half of 1800’s”.
A similar decorative and scenographic piece was for sure the centerpiece of the most important pharmacies.
