Description
A good signed botanical simple/compound brass microscope by Willliam Cary of London, c.1830
Although not without faults, this instrument offers superb optics in both modes. 50% original lacquer to the body tube with both lenses intact, 3 interchangeable and stacking lenses (some pratt in the past has forced them apart and bruised the brass instead of applying a little penetrating oil) but all of the lenses are intact. Stage insert, stage forceps, B/W disc, live box (with flea), glass concave insert for aquatic specimens, 3 numbered bone sliders (two cells missing) and a replacement 1 inch silvered mirror, if desired. The original is single sided with about 50% silvering. Excellent rack and pinion. Standing 10 inches tall on a beautiful ebony bound, mahogany box with brass ferrule in lid (no internal compartments/tray missing). Lock intact, no key. The case measures 19 x 15 x 4 cm. deep with Royal blue liner.
