Description
Bearing number 1750, this pre-RMS monocular stands a huge 24 inches tall. Bar limb construction on splayed claw foot, it retains about 80% of it’s original lacquer (most wear is on the foot-see photo). Geared and racked fully rotatable square stage and a substage condenser/polariser, this microscope has limited accessories. 2 C (short and long) and D eyepieces (looking for A and B although the diameter is odd on these pre-RMS models) and two magnificent objectives (1/4 and 1/12 with correction collars), signed and dated 1856 and 1857-see photos.
Due to it’s mass, the inclination joint has the Zentmeyer modification of a quarter circle bracket with locking arm. The microscope can fully decline/incline to the horizontal/vertical positions with stability. The large doubled sided 3 inch mirror is spidered but has 90% reflectivity. Working rack and pinion and fine focus ahead of the assembly knurled knob to the rear of the limb.
The glass fronted mahogany case makes this microscope a real showpiece. It measures 25 x 12 x 10 with a shrinkage crack to the rear (stable) and NO provisions for additional accessories i.e. substage accessories or bench condenser. Twin brass carrying handles, functional lock and key. There is a drawer in the base with 20 + slides and a pair of stage forceps (sans full tines).
Shipping will be done in two parts: Case and disassebled microscope sent separately due to mass and glass.
