Description
With the exception of some sticky residue on the top of the base, this instrument is in amazing condition for it’s 150 year old age. Standing 11 inches tall (14 inches fully racked), the bright golden lacquer is 95% intact.
Having an unusual factory stage insert (for opaque/mineralogical? work), the stage clips are extra deep to accomodate this blank insert sitting atop the the original with Abbe-type substage with iris. Flawless operation of all components. Perfect double sided mirror, fine focus to top of the pillar, triple objective nosepiece and a steel arm to incline and lock this stable instrument at any angle.
Fould in it’s original mahogany case with key, it comes with 3 objectives (cased and serialised-1 inch, 2/3 and 1/6) and 2 oculars. Some Eclipse models came with a round base but this one sits on a horseshoe base for extra stability. The stage insert allows for transparent and opaque samples with external direct lighting. Case measures 13 x 8 x 6 inches with leather carrying strap. The sticky residue atop the feet is a mystery (perhaps green felt and glue from years of contact storage). I will let the new owner attack the extent of cleaning.
