Description
A good pair of gilt brass and mother of pearl opera glasses c.1890.
Signed on the left eyepiece “Lemaire Fil, Paris” and on the right “Prott & Jefferson, Little Rock, Ark.”
Gilding is a little worn in spots but commensurate with age. Excellent mechanical and optical condition. Good clear images however lenses could use a dusting. No case.
The only reference that I could find to the jewellers Prott and Jefferson was a Jan. 3, 1892 full column apology to their customers in the Little Rock, Arkansas paper. Rare to find an American retailer on a pair of French optical devices in the same block lettering (factory order).
3 1/2 x 3 inches (extended). 1 1/4 inch O.G.
