Description
This is a very early (un-serialised) Dancer model, shortly after he moved to Manchester c.1841. Double trunnion construction for stability but otherwise a simple, second class model. Standing 14 inches down and 19 inches fully racked, it has the fine adjustment on the nosepiece and an early stacking triplet (European design) objective. Non-RMS threads (5/8″-32F), but very good optics ( a little dusty).
During his early construction years, Dancer started with this type of objective, then went to a dividing doublet system and finally to individual achromatic objectives (RMS) by 1860. The rackwork is flawless and tight, the scope can incline 90 degrees with stability on it’s tripod foot (signed). The stage is well worn and simple (not mechanical), the plano/concave mirror is adjustable by friction fit, both horizontally and vertically (one spider vein on each side through the center). The owners name appears on the underside of the tripod base. Original golden lacquer is 90%. No case or accessories but a functional instrument and displays well. Used but NOT abused (has NOT been tightened or taken apart-no bruising of screws anywhere).
