A very good c.1800, 4 inch dia. sundial in brass with broad shoulders and plain gnomen.
Early engraving with wheat ear decoration, 8 cardial points, inner hour ring divided into quarter hours and outer ring divided into 5 minute increments. Roman numerals used for hours of the day from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Northern latitude). Gnomen angle is 50 degrees. No bruises, no screw out of place, small area of old verdegris. Finely crafted, no name evident. 6 x 6 inch bevelled oak plinth has a bracket on the rear for wall mounting in two positions such that this sundial can be used both horizontally or vertically. A pleasing Georgian instrument.
