Description

SOLD – A nice four draw table top / portable telescope, signed, ‘L, Ing’r (Engineer) Chavallier. Optician, Place du Pont, Neuf 15, Paris’. He worked from this address from 1838 – 1850.

The telescope length fully extended is 38.5″ (98 cms), height 13.5″ (34 cms). The main lens is 1.75″ (45 mm) diameter and the telescope gives a fine sharp image when viewing, with a magnification of 25 x.

The user removes the first draw when using the astronomical eye-piece. This gives a magnification of 50 x and has a removable dark for glass sun observation.

In very good condition in fitted mahogany case. The handle of the case may be a later addition.
