Description
A fine No.1 binocular microscope by R&J Beck, 31 Cornhill, LONDON serial number 6632. (ON HOLD).
The microscope stands on a flat tripod base/foot, two supporting pillars, both terminating in trunnions supporting the microscope body, with large plano-concave swing-arm mirror (minor spotting) and sliding collar, substage condenser holder and screw X-Y/up-down adjustment. The stage has rack and pinion focusing to a large goniometer circuit stage allowing for full rotation of the specimen (demarcated from 0-180 degrees). Stage with X-Y controls, swept limb with single accessory holder, fine focus mechanism acting on the rack and nosepiece.Wenham prism in pull out drawer, rack and pinion to the dual eyepieces (blued steel inter-connecting rod).
Although this microscope shows minor wear to the foot (see photo), the rest of the microscope has seen little use with 99% original golden lacquer intact. The circuit stage was a rare and expensive option in 1873.
There is one complete case of accessories (most of which have never been used):
4 objectives-1 1/2 , 1 , 2/3, 1/5 inch, all in R&J Beck canisters
6 paired eyepieces-low, medium, high power
Achromatic condenser, stage bullseye, stage side reflector in oval can, erector lens, large live box, Lieberkuhn, stage forceps, Nicol/Wenham parabolic condenser, eyepiece lucida, micrometer slide in wooden case, specimen holder, dark wells (3) and circular substage holder. Eyepiece, nosepiece and substage polarisers, hand forceps, selenite/specimen holder, wrench to tighten trunnions. Oddly NO double nosepiece objective changer.
The flame mahogany case measures 20 x 12 x 10 inches deep with slide out base for the microscope and a bench condenser ( in rear), mounted on an angle typical of Beck. Original lock and key.
The microscope will be shipped in two boxes (case and accessories + microscope separately)
