Description
A fine 5 3/4 inch square Georgian pocket compass with a rare partnership signature c.1790.
Bright silvered dial with NO degradation and a rare signature of J. & W. Watkins, Charing Crofs, London.
Inner portion with 4 cardinal points/four quadrants and engine divided from 0-90 degrees in one degree increments. Outer portion raised and engine divided in the opposite direction i.e 360-0 degrees. Original glass, heavy screw hinges and L-hooks in a fabulous flame mahogany case without fault. The trip lever for the central jeweled compass pivot is working and the needle points North.
Jeremiah and Walter Watkins were in a limited partnership from 1784-1798.
