Description
Early awsome microscope made in London about 1860 by Moritz Pillischer. It has number 717 stylishly engraved in to the rear of the stand and comes with its’ case.
There are no cracks or chips to the brass and the microscope has retained all of its’ original lacquered finish. There are the usual scuffs, marks and scratches you expect from a used item of this age.
The drawtube moves up and down smoothly with its’ rack and pinion mechanism and the fine focus wheel works as it should. It comes with an eyepiece and two objectives, both in “M. Pillischer” cans. Another devices are a bulls eye condenser (the glass has a few chips tone side side to the edge), a Jackson micrometer, live box, stage forceps and polarizer. The microscope measures approximately 28 cm tall and it is in original case with working lock and key.
This microscope has been hardly used and it is nearly complete with only original pieces.
Moritz Pillischer was born in Hungary in 1819 and after moving to Great Britain, he became an excellent and renowned optician, well known for the quality of his optics. In 1851, 1855 and 1862 he won medals at prizes organized by the Royal Microscope Society. His establishment was located at 398 Oxford Street from 1851 to 1853 and at 88 New Bond Street from 1854 to 1887. He died in 1893 at the age of 74.
