Description
A fine example of a Sir Francis Cruise’s sphygmomanometer, which was used to measure pressure in the radial artery. See last image for more details on its use. This instrument was introduced by Cruise, an Irish surgeon in 1908 and this example by Down Bros was likely made not long after. Cruise was an Irish surgeon and an early pioneer in the use of the endoscope. He was knighted in 1906.
