Description

Cased and Signed Ross binocular Microscope with case and accessories.   This microscope is serial numbered 3709 which places it around 1846-1847 and has a Wenham binocular tube.    At the base of the binocular tube is the following inscription: “Wenham’s Binocular, by Ross, London”.  At the base of the claw foot is the following inscription: “ROSS, London, 3709.”  Accessories include 3 Eyepieces, 1 Inch objective, 1 ½ Inch objective (both mounted on microscope with matching cases), empty objective case marked “Ross 1/6 IN, London”, J. Swift & Son 2/3 In marked objective with case, and a second 1 Inch objective in a case marked “John Browning 1 IN London”.  The stage moves smoothly in both the X and Y directions.   The coarse focusing works smoothly, however, the shafts responsible for coarse focusing is slightly bent but has no effect on functionality.  The fine focusing knob does not turn.   The double-sided mirror is in very good shape.  The substage condenser vertical adjustment knob turns but the condenser does not move up or down.  Microscope stands 16.5 “ (41.9 cm) tall at lowest coarse focus setting.  Case dimensions are 17.5” (44.4 cm) tall, 8.5” (21.6 cm) wide and 8.25” (21 cm) deep.   Case has key.
