Cased and Signed John Browning “New” Pocket Microscope.  This microscope is signed: “John Browning 63 Strand, London 826”.  Originally, I was not able to determine date of manufacturer from the serial number 826, but the address was valid from 1872-1900.   Further research on microscope-antiques.com showed a cased “New” Pocket microscope like mine but with serial number 635, which was dated to about 1887.  So that makes this item more likely 1888 or 1889.  The accessories include tweezers, an unmarked objective, a slide, glass disc to be inserted into the stage and forceps.  Coarse focusing is accomplished by pulling or pushing the optical tube that contains the objective.  Fine focusing is accomplished by rotating the wheel on top of the third leg of the microscope and moves the stage when rotated.  The single sided mirror is in good condition.  Microscope stands about 6.5” (16.5 cm) tall at minimum height.   Case dimensions are; 7.25 “ (18.4 cm) long, 3.25” (8.2 cm) wide and about 2”(5 cm) deep.
