Description
Cased and Signed George Wale “Working Microscope”. The microscope is C. 1880 and has no accessories in the case other than the eyepiece that has to be removed from the body tube to get the microscope in the case. The top of the stage is signed “Geo. Wale” and the bottom of the substage insert is signed “Geo. Wale Pat June 6, 1876”. Coarse focusing is by rack and pinion and works smoothly. Fine focusing is accomplished by turning the knurled wheel at the top of the limb and it also works smoothly. The plane/concave mirrors are in good condition, although the plane mirror has a little cloudiness around the edge. The substage mirror is mounted on an arm that swings left and right. The case is missing the drawer that slides in the bottom ¼ of the case. Microscope is inclined by loosening knurled wheel at base and sliding curved limb to desired location and tightening the knob. The case is in good condition and no cracks are evident in the case. The microscope stands 10” (25.4 cm) tall with eyepiece and at minimum height. The case dimensions are: 13.25” (33.65 cm) tall, 6” (15.2 cm) wide and 7.5” (19.0 cm) deep.
