Description
An anatomical heart model of of circa 1890’s made by the Auzoux Factory. Louis Thomas Auzoux was a French medical doctor who added papier-mache to the modelling process of anatomical models. The model has some erosion due to time, but is complete with parts and the original paper labels in latin.
Auzoux set up a workshop in his home town of Saint Aubin d’Ecrosville in 1827. His newly invented moulding techniques allowed him to re-produce his models. One of these works is our life-size heartmodel, modelled from papier-mache. Polychrome handpainted with egg-tempera and a finished with Russian fish varnish.
