Description

Antique mechanical lark mirror manufactured around 1850 or slightly earlier. The very rare device is a real museum piece. It is in superb used condition and still works perfectly. It has been used by hunters. That is, after the mechanism is turned up, the wooden wick starts rotating for a long time. It is fitted with 26 mirrors that attract larks. This kind of lark mirror used used mainly in England, France, and Italy . . The use of this trapping device was very effective; even after a first shot at birds attracted by the lark mirror, the larks that flew away returned within a short time, after which they still fell prey to the hunters. Other species could also be attracted with the mirrors: plovers (including Morinel plover), pipits and chaffinches.
