An example of a very rare Fearnley Patent Universal calculator, marked ‘By Royal Letters Patent’-in original mahogany case.
Modus operandi is not clear although the Science Museum example describes its use by the Observatory of Cambridge University.
There are no moving parts or cursor-The calculator is rather grubby as shown and the surface is covered throughout with uneven varnish.
