Description

A very rare massive solid silver equinoctial sundial signed “E. Naine London” so made by Edward Nairne between 1748 and 1774 before his partnership with Blunt.

The instrument is made with heavy pieces of silver and splendidely engraved, especially the compass rose and the large signature.

The hour cirlce is doublely engraved on both sides.

On the backside of the compass, 9 cities and their latitude are engraved : Valence, Toleda, Lyons, Compostella, Lisbon, Stockholm, Paris, Madrid and Prague.

The English silver sundials are very rare.

The condition is excellent despite one trace under the square plate.
