Description
A presentation example with two original drawings and a dedication of a Martin-type huge “échelle-rapporteur’ made by Colombi in Paris circa 1862.
The instrument is preserved in its original wooden box. It measures around 45 cm lenght. One drawing is dedicated to “Monsieur le Directeur de l’Institut de France” and dated from “29 octobre 1862”.
This instrument seems to be something like a presentation prototype and was never manufactured for sale. I cannot find any information about it online or in the antique documentation. We did not indentify “Martin géomètre de 1ere classe” but we know that Colombi patented a “méthode pour les choix des lunettes” and tried to develop a new portable barometer during the 1860s’.
A very rare and unusual French drawing/engineering/mathematical instrument with its original manuscript documentation.
Old cleaning othetwise, the condition is excellent.
