Description
A large and unusual trephine for neurosurgery with crank and handle. The instrument is signed “Gasselin Paris” and it measures 37cm in length. We can date circa 1900-1910.
The handle, a rather unusual design and used to reinforce the support and the force of the surgery, fixed opposite the crank turns and is rotatable. It cannot not be used.
Gasselin is a maker of surgical instruments and veterinary surgical instruments. The size of the instrument suggests an use for surgery on large ruminants.
Despite some traces of foxings on the steel, good condition and good working order.
