Description
The instruments this A& B Schmeink trepanation set are made of polished steel with ebony handles. This set contains a trephine, two adjustable trephine drills with guiding movable guiding pins, a foliate drill with three adjustable bores, a brush made of ebony, one hey saw, two lenticulars and an elevator. Two items are missing: a razor and probably a forceps. All instruments, except for the threphine, have ribbed ebony handles to secure the grip. The case outer case is made of leather and signed ‘Heelkundige Instrumentmakers A & B Schmeink Amsterdam’, the inner case is made of purple velour
The firm Schmeink was foundedby J Schmeink in 1845 . In 1878 it was renamed to A & B Schmeink. In 1910 the name J.E.C. Schmeink was introduced, which was held until 1926.
