Description
We have obtained a collection of original watercolor drawings, done to record a variety of ophthalmic pathologies. They range from a group done at Hamblins in the 1920s( the bulk of the collection) to a couple of c1930 Curry Paxton drawings. They depict various ophthalmic pathologies such as congenital cataracts, sarcomas, siderosis, etc. Some of the drawings were executed for notable British ophthalmic surgeons, including Sir William Lister and W.S. Duke-Elder. Most artists signed their drawings only with their initials, e.g., “T.H.”, likely Thomas Hooper. Several are done by “A.P.” ,who we haven’t as yet identified. The majority cards on which the drawings are done measure 10″ x 7″ ( 25 cm x 17.5 cm) approx. In the last 30 years the camera has replaced these very skilled artists. It should be noted that a number of the drawings are covered with a protective sheet of cellophane that is simply folded over the back and easily removed. Each $45.00, with the exception of the small drawing, which are $25.00. Subtantial discount for anyone interested in the whole collection. There are about 16 in all.
