Description
A superb sterling silver ear trumpet by Thomas Phipps and Edward Robinson, with gadrooned rim and band. It is fully hallmarked for London, 1810. Height: 8.75″ or 22cms. Very good condition: no splits ,dents or repairs. P&R are considered to be among the finest creators of small silver objects during the late Georgian period.There is an expression in the antique silver trade used to describe a very-well crafted object: “Made like a Phipps & Robinson box”. A near identical ear trumpet (the only difference being that it was hallmarked for 1808) was sold by Flints on November 24th, 2022 for $8500.00 ( 6500 ukp ) all in. Our price is very substantially less.
