An amazingly rare and fine "Lady of Justice" oil on tin painting in gilt frame. Although unsigned, it is the same image used so often in late 18th century coin/gold scale trade labels to warn of the consequences of coin "clipping". With sword in one hand and the scales in the other, she upholds the law and edicts of the post 1772 era. The frame has had a few re-touches and there is a shrinkage crack runiing vertically through the gilt over wood oval insert (decorated with rosettes). The frame measures a minute 20 x 21 cm. ( 8 x 8 1/2").The painting is near flawless on the front side, although you can see the backing is a little rusty. |
