| High quality, enamel dial, unsigned pocket compass. This style has the unusually long crown. The majority of these pocket compasses were produced in England between the 1780s and 1840s. They are generally in an open faced case (silver or gilt) and have an enamel dial. This model has a flat blued needle and a brass pivot. The needle has a gilt letter "N' and "S" on the appropriate sides. The enamel dial is in excellent condition. (It is not signedby a maker) The dial has some dust on it. The case has no dents or dings. There is minimal wear on the gilt from age on the back of the case. The compass points strong to North. There is a needle lock activator behind the pendant, but the small round disk that sits around the central pin is not present so the needle lock does not engage. The right part of the bow by the crown is missing. |
